Dear Friends and Neighbors,
Welcome to the Franklin Grove Village web site.
It is my hope that you will visit a number of the links on our site,
and that a visit to the links will result in a personal visit with us
here in Franklin Grove, Home of the Whitney Apple since the
1880s and home the National Lincoln Highway Association
Headquarters since the 1990s.
The Franklin Grove Township Board of Trustees enjoy
their new office and meeting place in the former J. H. Patterson
building. Township Supervisor William Brierton and Township
Clerk Reva Brierton are pleased with the move that provided their own
office space to conduct business from and a dedicated area for
holding their regular meetings. The township continues to host
elections at the village hall. The Briertons are available by
appointment by calling 456-3400. For the first time in a dozen years
the township has a new road commissioner, Paul Erisman. He can be
reached at 456-2864.
Thrid Fridays at the Lincoln Building has
initiated a revival in folk and bluegrass music where local talent
converges to entertain crowds of 60 to 100 every third Friday of the
month beginning at 7:00 p.m. and continuing until there are more
musicians that listeners. This event has given birth to similar
events around the area.
For the eigth year in a row, Farming Heritage will
raffle an Antique Ford Car to be given away during the Christmas walk
in December. For tickets contact the Franklin Grove Information
Office at the H.I. Lincoln Building in Franklin Grove at 815-456-3030.
Significant improvements are being made at the Chaplin
Creek Historic Village that include a new firing range for the
Chaplin Creek Muzzle Loaders. Several historic structures,
including Mabel Henrys lunchroom, have been moved to the site
and are in various stages of restoration.
Volunteerism and a cooperative spirit drive the
Franklin Grove community engine and thus we are insulated to a degree
from the outside forces that slow progress and achievement elsewhere.
The Franklin Grove Police Department, under the
direction of Chief Tom Lehman, is establishing a reputation for firm
but fair law enforcement within the community. The department
has made major gains in providing security for the people and their
property in Franklin Grove.
Please do come and sit a spell with us.
Sincerely,
Bob Logan
Mayor
