Franklin Grove, Illinois 61031

Welcome to the official website of the Village of Franklin Grove, Illinois.  In the year 2003 we enter our 168th year of progress. We are a north central Illinois community of 1052  residents with a long heritage of conservative mid-western values.

We invite you to come and catch the spirit of volunteerism, the spirit that is transforming our community through more than twenty civic and service organizations. We are a low crime community with room to grow – a nice place to visit . . . a nice place to live!

The Franklin Grove Library is poised to take tremendous steps forward in information services to the community as a result of a recent bequest.  The funding insures the long -term stability of library resources and services and provides the library the finances necessary to make major technology and staffing advances.  The library has a significant genealogical collection.

The Franklin Grove Fire Protection District is a very progressive fire-department setting the pace among volunteer departments in north central Illinois. The village has its own police department staffed on a part-time basis by well-trained officers.

Small single proprietorship businesses dominate the business community, which is served by the Franklin Grove Area Business Association, an association dedicated to improving the commerce climate within the community.

Franklin Grove is home of the Franklin Grove Summer Harvest Festival held the weekend of the first Sunday in August each year celebrating the first fruits of the harvest. The Harvest Festival has become one of the premier small town, family-oriented festivals in northern Illinois adding new activities each year.

Franklin Grove has an association with the Lincoln Highway dating back to its origin in 1913 and 1914 and now serves as headquarters for the National Lincoln Highway Association.

The Franklin Creek and surrounding natural area provide a beautiful backdrop for a modern community with an historic past. A fully operational water driven grist mill makes the Franklin Creek State Park and Natural Area a unique visit for any traveler. The natural history augments a noteworthy rural past in the early stages of being redeveloped for posterity.

Franklin Center Elementary and Franklin Center Junior-Senior High Schools offer a K-12 program supplemented by cooperative programs for career studies and special education. Among rural schools the schools  have been leaders in the development and use of technology in the classrooms. Franklin Center High School has a nationally recognized FFA program.
